A deadstock Cone Mills experimental is truly special. It's a combination of the perfectly classic selvedge base we loved Cone for with the addition of a special ingredient to change things up. This is the Cone Mills Lyocell Selvedge.
Cone Mills was an American master of classic selvedge denim. Sturdy, starchy, classic. This style starts out exactly the way you'd expect. A highly wearable 12 ounce weight. A wonderfully dark, pure blue warp with crisp white weft. Nice starch and a bold white selvedge ID. It's all-American selvedge you'd want to own even if it stopped there. In this style, there is one more key addition that changes the subtle character of the fabric - Lyocell. This is a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp. It's widely prized for a number of key characteristics that pair surprisingly well with raw denim. The first is an ability to lend a silk-like feel to fabric. Although not overpowering, you detect a unique, more flowing drape from this raw denim. Lyocell is also know for durability and breathability. Exactly what you want for a hard-wearing fabric like selvedge denim. Using different ingredients to subtly alter the personality of fabric. We approve.
