A t-shirt is a seemingly simple garment, but only if you treat it that way. Knits can have a huge amount of character, you just have to find the right levers to pull to get there. Today we wanted to show you one of our favorite t-shirt styles that really showcases how beautiful a quality knit can be. It's our Slub Cotton Pocket T-Shirt.
Raw materials, texture and color: these shirts dial everything up. They start with the finest organic cotton spun into incredibly slubby yarns. These slubby yarns give this jersey depth that you rarely find in a knit. You see it and even feel it. The slubs run throughout the surface of the fabric giving it visual texture and great highs-and-lows of color. The varied thickness in the yarn creates little patches of fabric that you can even feel when you're wearing this t-shirt. Next comes the dye. We use a pigment dye which produces a much softer, vintage looking color, that will softly age over time. It's the perfect reflection of the look clothing takes on after years of sun bleached summers.
We've assembled our current three favorite colors for you:
Ocean: The perfect medium blue. It almost reminds us of a pair of raw denim that you've broken in well over time. The slubbiness gives it huge character.
Oatmeal: A cream color that's made much lively from the texture and color variation produced by the slubby yarns.
Red: A vintage, soft red that looks like you've worn it well for years.
Fit is much more important on a t-shirt than you might think. We set out to strike the right balance between a tailored fit and an easy to wear piece. The shoulders are fitted, which keeps the overall look clean. The sleeves hit at just the right point on the arm and are tight enough to prevent them from winging out. The body is slightly tapered, but easy enough to not be mistaken as an undershirt. The length hits just right so it falls below the waist line, but does not cover your entire backside.
Construction details are classic and sturdy. We start with double stitch binging around the neck. The shoulders are taped, which adds effort to construction, but provides an extra touch of structure to the garment. Double needle hems finish the sleeves and bottom and a slightly narrower gauge is used to lend a small element of refinement. Finally, our pocket dimensions are the perfect size at approximately 4 inches wide x 4.5 inches long.
Quality t-shirts made in the USA with domestic materials are typically priced over $35 each. The Gustin model allows us to offer you a radically better value.
Please note this garment is dyed in small batches. Color variations are to be expected and can vary in tone or hue from batch to batch.
