Cardigan Sweater - Charcoal Merino Wool

Not all wool is created equal and we've chosen the the best out there. Our 19.5 micron merino wool qualifies as extra fine and has the softest hand we've felt with a flexibility and durability perfect for the coming seasons. This yarns is tightly woven and drapes wonderfully. Merino is also prized for a non-scratchy hand and the ability to retain heat without being too warm. Unfortunately, there is not an image that conveys how robust this sweater is in person. When you pick it up, you instantly sense the weight and sturdiness. The yarn is dyed a gorgeous grey, ideal for cold-weather palettes. This is the perfect sweater to dress up over an oxford or dress down with some selvedge denim.

To realize the vision we had for our cardigan, we partnered with one of the most renowned knitters in the USA. We set out to honor this sweaters iconic shape and ensure the construction details were dialed in perfectly. Our cardigan is defined by its v-neck silhouette, tubular placket and front pockets that flow down into a nicely drawn-in waist. The shoulders are fitted, which keeps the overall look clean. The body is slightly tapered, but roomy enough so that it's superbly comfortable. Finally, the length hits just right so it falls below the waist line, but does not cover your entire backside. The sweater is so heavy because of the 7 gauge rib stitch, which is close to a double-stitch. If you look at the inside of the sweater, you'll see the same stitching pattern as you'll see on the outside, giving this cardigan its weight and thickness. The fully-fashioned sweater is fabricated in the Stoll machine component by component; back, front, and sleeves. The back, front, sleeve, and front plackets are then linked together for a totally clean finish inside and out. The garment is then cleaned by hand, to make sure every single thread is pulled and collected, with no loose yarn. The garment is washed, giving a consistent finish to each sweater. It's then steamed on an industrial steam table to smooth the fabric and eliminate all wrinkles and creases. The front is then measured by hand and each button hole is placed separately, so they're completely even. The button holing machine does its job and the buttons are then sewn on by hand. This sweater has a simple elegance that can only be achieved by the kinds of craftsmen we worked with in creating this piece.
