Meet the Gustin L4 Leather Jacket - taking inspiration from vintage car coats, we’ve updated this iconic style and treated it to the finest construction and leathers possible to create a true investment piece. From Horween's famous horse hides to a uniquely aged lamb skin, today we get to show you the kind of value and quality we can offer using true made-in-America construction.
Leather jackets are investments. They should last a lifetime. They should get better over the years. Hitting this mark means starting with a style that's truly enduring. The car coat is one of these styles. It was designed as a functional garment for motoring, when exposure to the elements was still a big part of travel. We take these roots and update them for today. The fit is tailored through the body without being extreme. Length has been adjusted to target a versatile sweetspot, hitting just below the hip. We labored over sleeve sizing to ensure movement, while keeping a truly fitted look. Details are distinct to the style and made clean. From a perfectly sized point collar, to button front placket, to the intricately constructed and functional half-belt back, we tried to capture the beautiful elements of the style without adding clutter. Welt pockets for the hands sit below two side entry chest pockets. Each is treated to careful arrow stitch details. There is an interior pocket for hidden storage. Barrel cuffs with button closure complete the sleeves. The body and arms are lined with a jet black herringbone cloth. This is our most labor intensive jacket to date. All these details set the stage for new leather.
For those seeking a leather that's truly a cut above, it's hard to beat Horween. The colors, the textures, the way they age, make Horween jackets some of the most desired. This is our first horsehide jacket and it definitely lives up to the standard. While we've used Horween in previous jackets, for L4 we wanted to honor one of your key pieces of feedback requesting a more wearable leather than our cowhide versions on day one. These horsehides retain all the beauty in color we expect. The grain is tight, while still having enough texture to retain some character. The feel is spot on. Midweight and clearly durable, but with a more pliable texture, this is the perfect balance of wearability and rugged character. There is no color more famous than #8. It's not hard to see why. The deep burgundy is unlike anything else. While you might think anything in this shade range would be overpowering, #8 manages to remain subtle, understated and elegant. It's just plain beautiful.
Leather jackets like ours that are made in the USA using our quality of material and construction are typically priced at $1000 or higher. The efficiency of the Gustin model, with your support, lets us do much better.
